Earth to Moonbaby

Plan 1

Book of Collected Postcards, Remembrances
1

Plan 1 is closed.  It was conceived by consensus at the moonbaby vote up.

Here is more info and a link to preview the "Moonbaby collection of Postcards and Remembrances".

If you want to reminisce, check out the time line below:

5/20

If you haven't submitted yet, its isn't like the world is going to end.

I'm going to start designing and making the book since I only have an additional five months to go to Kinkos.  If I can fit you in - awesome.  But I hope you don't mind if your submission gets honorable mention at the state fair.

If you are all fired up and don't care about the apocalypse, you can still send me content via email or PO 13 Chapel Hill, NC 27514.  Your choice!

5/14:

One week left!  Put a stamp on it already!

I've seen some beautiful things come out of PO13, but where is yours?

Just received email delivery from JackET.  Awesome.

Amina dropped a package that exceeded the size of my box. That sounds odd but looks great.

Jenny's walnut is popping up everywhere.

Dan's deliveries are consistent like soluble fiber.

Is yours next?

4/13:

This project has started!

Door prize goes to Jenny!

I'm stunned by the work!  But you'll have to wait for the book.

Two other transient postcards have also arrived at P.O.Box 13 Chapel Hill, NC 27514 for documentation and processing.  I'll post and send those as requested.

Clap, clap, clap!  Come on everyone!

(does this cheerleader outfit make my butt look big?)

The concept:

We are running with a mash up of the most popular suggestions from moonbabies vote up.

The current concept is to create a book of collected postcards, new and old, intertwined with Hamilton recollections, messages, anything inspired by moonbaby.  Anything he might appreciate.

This is a flexible submission project that ends as a pressed book.  You might be surprised that short run custom books are pretty reasonable.  Lulu.com looks promising.  There is also Blurb.com.  I like the horizontal options, but am easily persuaded.  Think of this: 100 pages, full color perfect bound book for $25.

There is a nomination for Matt to write an opener to the book akin to the Vaguely Optimistic post.  Matt, are you game?

I've set a timer to get us focused. Here are the time lines.

Date when we will know more about postcard requirements/printing options and costs: April 10th

Countdown to

Current participation and next steps:

First, some stats (because I love stats):
We set this site up on March 10th.  Since then the site has seen 400 visits from new and returning moonbabies in 3 countries around the world.  Overall, this site has served 2,500 pageviews in less than a month.

Despite the traffic to the site, the number of moonbabies unregistered for this project remains low.

Blurb is my choice of online book binders.  It was almost LuLu, but Blurb's formatting tool, BookSmart, looks like it may help prevent me from purchasing another Adobe product and formatting a book in MS Word.  This option will be used if we can see 20 or so people contributing.  We aren't there yet.

But with the number of people we do have for this project, I think a small batch of custom-bound replications of postcards with the originals nestled into a custom box for delivery to the family would be a nice way to proceed.  I can screen print some covers and bind with a rivet gun if necessary.

Anyone have some additional ideas for a low volume, offline book?  Let us know!

Big or small.  It will be good.  I swear we're going to do something!

Date which post card must be submitted to be included: May 22nd:

Post card format should be at or less than 8.25 inches x 6 inches (or in that ratio).  This is the printing size for the horizontal book if we go with the blurb option or with the low run custom job. They should be sent to P.O.Box 13 Chapel Hill, NC, 27514.

I'll set up some photo booth thing and make them all look consistent.

So get crackin!
